In Slakkenhuis (1984), Maria Angela merges a portrait of a woman with the spiral of a snail shell—an ancient symbol of introspection, cycle and returning to the core.

Soft blue tones and flowing lines give the work a dreamy layering. The eyes—central and enchanting—look inward and outward. They radiate peace, but also something that is not entirely fathomable.

The spiral structures whisper: thinking is never linear .
Consciousness unfolds slowly, layer by layer.
