About Maria Angela

Maria Angela was a visionary artist and poet who touched generations with her masterful painting technique and profound poetry. Her artwork and words carry a timeless wisdom, making them not only visually and intellectually inspiring, but also a source of spiritual reflection.

Maria Angela, born on 7 February 1942 in Vught, left her artistic legacy for more than 55 years under the name Mariette Nijsten and later under her baptismal names Maria Angela. During that time she painted approximately 130 works (her first dates from 1972). Without any formal training as a painter, she managed to attract attention as an autodidact with her fluent use of colour, geometric style and talent for symmetry and repetition.

Maria Angela always found her inspiration in visions. As soon as these images with a message presented themselves, she made rough sketches and then brought them to life with oil paint on linen canvas. Her art is not only aesthetic; it radiates positive energy and harmony, transforming any space it hangs in.

Marie Angela exhibited frequently in the Netherlands and sold her work to large companies and individuals. She painted numerous portraits and managed to reach a wide audience. Her work received attention in various newspapers and magazines, including De Elegance, a leading lifestyle magazine in the 1980s.

Eventually she realised that her works were too personal to continue selling. Despite her success, she decided to stop selling and no longer offer her art commercially.
